Lovey's, Bears, and Blankies, Oh My!

Comfort Objects

Many children become attached to comfort objects, like their night night, or blankies, lovey’s or bears. This documents the journey from a dependent little baby to an independent human being, and a lovey can be so helpful for the transition. Many of us parents save their lovey’s when they no longer use them. Then there are mothers like me, who not only save them, but also MUST document their attachment to their lovey, in documentary/lifestyle type photography. (This goes for thumb and finger sucking too)!

Always Remember

I love the idea of documenting these special attachments, because after all, they become such an important part of your babes little life. Ive noticed that sometimes kids will bring their lovey to their family photography session, and when Im getting ready to start shooting, the parent will go to take it away. That is when I step in and say “trust me, let them hold onto it for this session.”

Three Reasons

There are three reasons that I LOVE when a child gets to hold onto their lovey during their photo session. One- the child is comfortable, at peace, happy, and feels safe. This makes the photo session much easier on them, allows them to relax, and most importantly be themselves!! After all, my goal is to capture your child authentically!

Secondly, the images makes for the BEST keepsakes. It may not seem that way in the moment, but 2,3, 5 years down the road, you will be grateful you allowed your child to hold onto their lovey during their session. You will look at the images, and say “remember when…..” and it will bring you back to that time. Authentic photography isn’t meant to be perfectly posed and fake smiles. Authentic photography is meant to capture the memories of this time in your lives, your child’s lives, your family’s lives. It’s supposed to bring you back to the time photos were taken, and evoke your memory, make you feel good, make you feel like you went back in time. Kind of like a scent or a song can do, they bring you back. My goal is to capture you so authentically, so raw, that you are brought back in time when you look back on these images.

Thirdly, because your child will want to remember too!!! :)
