What To Expect During A One Year Photo Shoot
Your Little One's ONE!
Twelve months went by super fast, and it’s already time to plan your little one’s big ONE year photo shoot! I love capturing the joy of a one year old baby and the pride of his or her parents during a cake smash photo shoot! In this blog post, Im going to share with you how to prepare for this special session and what to expect during it! There are three parts to a cake smash session. One, the family photos part, two, individual photos of the birthday baby, and three, the cake smashing part. I will share on how to prepare for them all!
Individual Photo’s of Your One Year Old!
These first year photos go without saying. They are part of documenting milestones, and an important part of a one year photo shoot!! Clean, classic captures of your one year old. These are the photos you will frame, send to the grandparents, and store in a photo box for when they go off to college. After all, they change the most in the first twelve months!
The Family Part
Of course it’s a good idea to get in some family photo’s during your baby’s one year photo shoot! I am already there taking photo’s, it’s included, AND it’s a very important time in yours and their life that absolutely needs to be documented! Prepare your family’s clothing ahead of time. If you would like styling help, I am here to help! Some people prefer to change baby into a new outfit for their cake smash, and some like to keep it the same!
The Cake Smash Part
This is the last part of the photo shoot, for obvious reasons ;) For the cake smashing part, you will need a cake, or a cupcake! I often recommend families go for pastels and avoid dark colored icing, especially red, purple and brown, for their cakes, because needless to say…those colors don’t smash well! A classic white is a favorite of mine! I am always a sucker for a timeless, classic cake smash. (little to no props, and a clean white cake). This allows the focus to be on your precious baby’s cake eating face. However, I am always open to including props, or decorations. A lot of times, parent’s like to bring some of their baby’s first birthday decorations, such as banners, balloons, or include a birthday hat! Clothing should be pretty simple, and not too many distractions such as logos or cartoons. These photos can be taken indoors or outdoors! If shooting outdoors, bring some baby wipes, a towel, and a change of clothes for after the cake gets smashed!
